Game of the Week: Baylor 76, Texas 70 in Big 12 tournament semifinals (Friday)
Despite having lost their last 24 against the Longhorns, Baylor rallied back from a 6-point halftime deficit on Friday to become the first No. 9 seed to reach the Big 12 final. Prior to their three wins in the Big 12 tournament, the Bears were just 3-10 and had won only five conference games all season long.
Performance of the Week: Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat
Dwyane Wade tallied 50 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in the Heat's triple-overtime win Saturday over the Utah Jazz. In addition to becoming just one of four guards to post a 50-point, 10-rebound game in the last 20 years, Wade passed Alonzo Mourning to become Miami's all-time leading scorer.
Big Letdown: Puerto Rico 11, United States 1, World Baseball Classic (Saturday)
In a game that was called after seven innings due to the WBC's mercy rule, the U.S. team was tagged for seven runs in the first two innings and failed to get any offense going. Derek Jeter, Chipper Jones and Kevin Youkilis went a combined 0-for-9 batting in the two, three and four spots for Team USA.
Wish We Were There: Verizon Center, Washington, D.C. (Capitals defeat Hurricanes, 5-4 in a shootout, Saturday)
Alex Ovechkin scored the game-winning goal in the shootout to give the Capitals their first home win in two weeks in front of a sellout crowd of 18,277.
Number of the Week: 3
The number of Big East teams that received No. 1 seeds in the 2009 NCAA Tournament. No other league has ever accomplished this feat.
