Lecture on 'Tooles' of the trade

Since graduating with a degree in political science - and a National Championship - in 2004, former UConn basketball player Shamon Tooles has experienced significant success in the hip-hop industry.
And now he's going to share his experience with the UConn community.
Tooles, who performs under the stage name "Toolez," will be giving a lecture tonight in CUE 134 from 5 to 6:30 about his experiences as an artist and entertainment company executive. The lecture is specifically for F.A.M.E entertainment, an on-campus organization for students interested pursuing a career in the entertainment world, but any students who wish to attend are welcome as well. Tooles will speak about the importance of an education for everyone, even more so for those interested in taking a leap into the music industry.
"It feels great to be asked to come back by the university," Tooles said. "I still represent this university academically, athletically and now musically as well."
The former basketball player has performed alongside T.I., Fabolous, Kanye West and Ludacris. He recently released a mixtape titled "The King's Lair." He plans on releasing a CD this summer, and has already signed up-and-coming rapper Drake as well as R&B singer Mavado to be featured on the album.
