The Pro Side: LeBron needs a ring to cement status

Issue date: 3/19/09 Section: Sports
If LeBron James ever wants to be considered the greatest player in NBA history, he needs to win an NBA championship this season. He talks about being like Michael Jordan, wearing No. 23, and he is unquestionably a great player. But legends are measured by championships and James needs to start winning some rings.
The Cleveland Cavaliers were nothing before they drafted James and he has almost single-handedly made them a great team each season. But this season, with arguably the best supporting cast he has had around him in his time in the NBA, it's time to hoist the championship trophy.
Jordan had great players around him and a great coach on the bench, but what separates Jordan from James is desire. James is a baby compared to Jordan. He cries when things don't go his way and expects everything to be as he sees fit. Jordan took what he wanted and always found a way to get the job done.
Now it's time for James to step it up and use his freakish talent to win a championship. No excuses, just get it done. If he truly is "King James" then get through the playoffs with the players on your roster. Moe Williams is a solid sidekick and the Cavaliers are primed to secure the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and home-court advantage.
With James playing his best basketball ever, it's time for him to put-up or shut-up, get over the hump and win an NBA Championship.

LeBron will never be the player Jordan was, he doesn't have any kind of mid range game. Sure, he is probably the best athlete in NBA history, but where is the defensive ability that should come with that? As the body approaches the age of 30 it begins to decline, so unless he wins 6 championships in a row starting this season, he has almost zero chance of catching Mike. (Continued…)

Hey Joe Suede,
Michael Jordan was born in February of 1963. So he was 28 years old when he won his first championship (1991). That means he was 35 when he won his last championship (1998), and 30 or older for three of his championships. (Continued…)
