UConn coach Jim Calhoun was not on the bench for the Huskies' 103-47 demolition of 16th-seeded Chattanooga yesterday.

Calhoun was admitted to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania hours before tip-off and remained there overnight for observation. His symptoms were unknown at press time, but he is listed in "good condition."

"I have been feeling lousy for the past several days and this morning talked to Dr. [Jeff] Anderson about it," Calhoun said. "He recommended that I not coach in the game today and stay back in the hotel. As the day went on, he suggested that we go over to the hospital and have some testing done. Fortunately, those tests have all gone well and I am feeling much better. I will stay the night as a precaution and anticipate being checked again in the morning and being able to leave the hospital at that time."

Calhoun watched the game from the hospital and talked to the entire team on the phone after it.

"He's our leader and our general," said senior guard A.J. Price. "We were just anxious to know that he's O.K., that he's going to be O.K. and be able to come back later in the tournament, and he is going to be with us Saturday."

There has been no official diagnosis or reason released as to why Calhoun needed to be hospitalized. The Huskies are 17-4 all-time in his absence.
