This weekend marks the beginning of the men's tennis team's Big East schedule as well as the beginning of the Huskies' home schedule. UConn takes on conference rival Georgetown on Saturday at 11 a.m. and St. John's Sunday at noon.

While the Huskies are not overlooking St. John's, the big match this weekend will be against the Hoyas.

"There are a few things we circle on our calendar each year," said coach Glenn Marshall. "We have two big rivals in Georgetown and Villanova. This date is definitely circled. Our guys are eager for revenge from the past couple of losses to them."

The men are 6-2 this spring season, and coming off a three-game sweep of their opponents from their Spring Break trip to Florida. St. John's comes to town with a 6-7 (0-1 Big East) record, while Georgetown is 2-14.

Seniors Gustavo Loza and Jordan Talbot lead the Red Storm. Seniors Adam Gross and Kenneth Wong lead Georgetown, while former E.O. Smith High School player Andrew Bruhn is making his homecoming to Storrs.

Andrew Marcus, Tom Cook and Joe Goldstein are expected to make an impact this weekend. Also, Scott Warden, Matthew Burns, Dave Adams and Ricardo Cardona look to continue last week's success. Two wins would be a great way to show the Big East that the Huskies are serious opponents.

"We are excited to get started with the Big East schedule," Marshall said. "We've beaten very good teams this year and our confidence is very high."

The Big East schedule is composed of matches against three teams, with Georgetown and St. John's this weekend, and Villanova the last weekend of the regular season. There are nine Big East men's tennis teams. All qualify for the Big East championship at South Florida this spring.

It is very difficult to make the NCAA tournament without a Big East title first.

Georgetown is definitely the Huskies' biggest rival in the Big East, and with this great start they are more excited than ever to take on the Hoyas.
