The only thing missing from Kappa Kappa Gamma's (KKG) second annual Price Is Right event was Bob Barker.
The sorority hosted its fundraiser in the Student Union Theater Sunday afternoon to raise money for KKG's national philanthropy organization Reading is Fundamental.
Colorful balloons and streamers hung from the theater's ceilings as a packed audience cheered on friends. The game show was conducted just like the long-running television show. Students' names were shouted out randomly and they hurried on to stage to bid on products and hopefully win a prize.
Greek organizations pre-registered for the event by donating $75 so they could participate in the game. Non-registered students could come and watch and make a donation to the cause.
Even before the event started, Kimberly Ellison, a 2nd-semester psychology and human development and family studies major, said KKG had collected $525 from those who had registered in advance. They still hadn't received all of the checks and donations from the day were not tallied.
When the rules and proceedings were explained, four lucky contestants got on stage and participated in the Price Is Right game. The first items students bid on were a pair of UGG boots and a North Face jacket modeled by a KKG member.
The closest bidder got to play the game Hole-in-One. Before he could play a little golf, he had to match certain products such as body wash, cleaning spray and air freshener to the correct prices to gain an advantage in the game.
Unfortunately the contestant did not match any of the products with the correct prices, but he still had the opportunity to putt. The victorious contestant got a hole-in-one and left the stage with a $25 gift certificate to Randy's Wooster Street Pizza.
The game continued on as contestants bid on items like L.L Bean moccasin slippers, an organic chemistry text book and a Blackberry Storm PDA. Contestants continued to match products to prices and participate in games such as the beloved Plinko, In the Bag and One Away.
