Florida's Steffi Sorensen recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds and Sha Brooks scored a game-high 18 points as the No. 8 seed Gators rolled to a 70-57 victory over No. 9 seed Temple in the first round of the women's NCAA Tournament at Gampel Pavilion.
The Gators (24-8) advance to play top-seeded and unbeaten UConn Tuesday night at 7 p.m., also at Gampel.
"Certainly I'm always about hustling and going after rebounds, and it just kind of happened that the balls were bouncing to me," Sorensen said. "It's a good feeling, but certainly the win's bigger and better we're excited about Tuesday."
Temple (21-10) scored the first four points of the game, but would lead just once more for the rest of the game, as Florida pulled away over the final 10 minutes of the half to go into the break with a 41-33 lead. The Owls closed to within four early in the second half, but could not get any closer as the Gators worked to build a double-digit lead that they would not relinquish over the half's final five minutes.
