Game of the Week: UConn 103, Chattanooga 47 (NCAA West Regional, First Round, Thursday) - Any one of the Huskies' blowout victories so far in both the men's and women's tournaments could have gone here, but this one bordered on the historic. Only two other games in tournament history have had wider margins of victory, and UConn was without Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun who spent the night in a Philadelphia hospital with an illness.
Performance of the Week: A.J. Price (Thursday/Saturday, NCAA Tournament) - The senior All-American point guard is playing the best basketball of his career - with three straight 20-point games dating back to the Big East tourney - and the Huskies have steamrolled into the Sweet Sixteen as a result.
The Big Letdown: Baseball swept by West Virginia in Big East opening series (Friday-Sunday) - After spending the first two weeks of the 2009 season in sunny Florida, the Huskies started their homecoming last week by winning a pair of one-run contests over in-state opponents Fairfield and Sacred Heart. Their first games in the confines of J.O. Christian Field were dominated by the visiting Mountaineers, however, including a 12-2 drubbing in game two.
Wish We Were There: UConn Tennis Courts (Saturday) - The women's tennis team picked up its first Big East victory of the year, winning four of six single matches and two out of three doubles matches.
Number of the Week: 97.5 - the men's basketball team's points-per-game average through the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament, the highest in the field.
