Missed out on your favorite band's concert because of an exam? Tired of the lukewarm music scene around campus? As the weather gets warmer, major music festivals are just weeks away, featuring every sort of music imaginable. So, grab a tie-dye tee shirt and a few glow sticks, and check out what these festivals have to offer.
Coachella - April 17-19
Held in Indio, Calif., this festival is going to be worth the trip. Featuring Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Leonard Cohen, Conor Oberst, the Black Keys, Girl Talk, the Chemical Brothers, The Killers, M.I.A, TV on the Radio, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Atmosphere, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lupe Fiasco, the Hold Steady and tons more, this festival has everything from music legends to little known indie, rock and techno bands. A three-day pass can be purchased for $269, and single day tickets will be available for $99. Parking will be free for the festival and the concerts will be held rain or shine.
Bonnaroo - June 11-14
One of the most popular festivals among the crunchy granola crowd, Bonnaroo has secured some big names this year, including Bruce Springsteen, Phish, Beastie Boys and Nine Inch Nails, making it worth the trip to Manchester, Tenn. Also present will be Wilco, Al Green, Snoop Dogg, Elvis Costello, Ben Harper, the Mars Volta, TV on the Radio, MGMT, Band of Horses, Gov't Mule, Girl Talk, of Montreal, Coheed and Cambria, Animal Collective, Jenny Lewis, Grizzly Bear, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Portugal. The Man and loads more. Ticket prices vary depending on the time of purchase, but start at $224.50. All tickets are four-day passes and include camping and parking.
Rothbury - July 2-5
This festival is really more like a combination of a fairyland and Disneyworld. Held in Rothbury, Mich., this festival will feature music legends such as the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Black Crowes and Damien Marley, as well as the String Cheese Incident, Nas, STS9, G. Love and Special Sauce, Gov't Mule, Broken Social Scene, The Disco Bicutits, Les Claypool, John Butler, Chromeo, Girl Talk, Toot and the Maytals and Shpongle. Weekend general admission tickets are $249.50 plus delivery fees, and optional RV and parking fees. Look for the Maplewoods Good Life Vip ticket (includes weekend pass, parking and camping Thursday-Sunday) at $490.
