Last Thursday's match at Marist was cancelled and rescheduled for Wednesday, April 1. UConn now has three matches in three days. The tough stretch starts today at home against NEC powerhouse Quinnipiac.
The Bobcats (6-3) are led by their three seniors: Vinny Corvari, Thomas Curran, and Joseph Nuara. Juniors John Hughes and Charles Feldman are top players as well.
The Bobcats are always an NEC title contender and have appeared in both the NEC and national tournaments. Quinnipiac's wins have included blowouts against Hofstra, Hartford, Lafayette and NEC-foe Mt. St. Mary's. But Quinnipiac has also suffered close losses at the hands of Bucknell and Fairfield, while being routed by longtime nemesis UMBC.
"They are a strong team every year," said coach Glenn Marshall.
For the past two seasons, their annual match with the Huskies has been rained out. UConn will counter Quinnipiac's seniors with co-captains Ben Schueler and Joey Michaels. Andrew Marcus, Tom Cook, and Joe Goldstein have been UConn's top performers as of late. But the whole team has contributed in their recent Florida trip and two slim losses. After Quinnipiac comes the makeup at Marist, followed by a trip to Fairfield concluding the week Thursday. But no one is overlooking the Bobcats.
"This is going to be a tough match," said Marshall.
The road has not been easy for the Huskies the past couple of matches, with home losses to Georgetown and St. John's before the Thursday rainout. An upset victory against Quinnipiac would help the Huskies forget about their recent struggles and get them back on the right side of the win-loss column.
