The Pro Side: Cutler a good fit with a lot of teams

Issue date: 4/2/09 Section: Sports
The Jay Cutler situation has finally come to a head. The Denver Broncos have announced they will comply with Cutler's wishes to be traded and will attempt to find a partner among several willing suitors for the young gunslinger.
Cutler's whining after new head coach Josh McDaniels tried to trade for Matt Cassel with whom he trusted to command his offense in New England, finally forced the move after acting like a baby and not returning calls to rectify the situation from McDaniels. Cutler needs to shed this sense of entitlement for a quarterback with a sub-.500 record and who has been overhyped since he was drafted out of Vanderbilt.
Sure, Cutler has every physical tool you want from an NFL quarterback, but comparing himself to John Elway in terms of arm strength and even mentioning himself in the same sentence as Elway is utterly ridiculous. Let outsiders label you like that and earn it by going out and performing.
Despite this outcry, there will be approximately 10 teams with serious interest in acquiring the 25-year-old Pro Bowler. Atop the list are the New York Jets, who already have publicly stated their interest in the quarterback, the Bucs, Vikings, Bears, Lions and 49ers. Others could all be interested in Cutler, but acquiring him may require some creativity.
Denver wants an early draft pick, most likely a first rounder, other picks and a young starter in return. Many of the interested franchises can't comply with giving up a young starter but a team that has two quality young quarterbacks, the Cleveland Browns with Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn, could be another partner in a three-team trade.
If Cleveland gets involved, expect Quinn to be the one to go. He is familiar with McDaniels and the New England offensive system from learning under Charlie Weiss at Notre Dame. This would give Denver the starter it needs and satisfy the needs for all clubs involved.
How this situation plays out will be a major storyline for the upcoming NFL season and a trade could have major ramifications in the NFL Draft for several franchises if picks are being dealt away.

You speak of things of which you know not.
The 32 year old coach of the Broncos made it plain to Jay Cutler that he was not wanted. It was only a matter of time (sooner or later) until Cutler was a gone-er. (Continued…)
