With Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler requesting a trade this past week, it's only pertinent to check in on a few UConn transfers, why they left, and see where they ended up.
Rob Garrison,transferred to Niagara
Garrison, only a two-star recruit, was signed in a hurry the summer before UConn's 2005 basketball season began primarily as a precautionary backup guard. Several stolen laptops later, Garrison saw minutes at guard, replacing the suspended Price and Marcus Williams. His freshman season he played the most he ever would at UConn, averaging 8.9 minutes-per-game, scoring 1.9 points, and 2.1 assists per contest. When Price returned a season later Garrison was reduced to garbage time minutes and subsequently transferred to Niagara.
After sitting out the 2007-08 season Garrison produced big time for the Purple Eagles. Starting at point guard for most of the season he poured in 10.9 points-per-game while shooting 41 percent from the floor. His junior season Garrison led Niagara to a 14-4 conference record and a spot in the MAAC tournament final where they fell 77-70 to Siena. The Purple Eagles landed an NIT berth, where they lost to Rhode Island in the first round.
Marcus Johnson, transferred to USC
When Johnson came into UConn he was a big time recruit headed to a big time program. J Midway through his sophomore campaign Johnson was overshadowed by freshman Stanley Robinson and saw his minutes decline. In the 2007-08 season Johnson played just six minutes in one exhibition game for UConn. Realizing his potential for minutes with the Huskies was limited, Johnson transferred after the fall semester of his junior year.
Johnson's best game with USC came Jan. 29 against Stanford where he scored nine points in 18 minutes off the bench, propelling the Trojans to a 70-69 victory over the Cardinal.
