Weekly Brew: Combining girls, beer for a good result

It is a fact of American life that most women simply do not enjoy beer as much as men do, if at all. I find the reversal funny, as a couple hundred years ago most brewers were women. It was a household necessity, and women took care of it. It's the exact opposite in my house, where my girlfriend will generally sit on the couch not 10 feet away from my homemade two-tap refrigerator and ask me to get her beer.
Women tend to enjoy fruitier, sweeter and generally stronger alcoholic concoctions, as it gets the job done and some of them are lower calories. I emphasize "some" because margaritas and frozen drinks can be loaded with sugar and pack more than 500 calories. Try to remember that the next time you're in Crazy-Stuff-on-the-Walls Bar & Grille.
Mass market lagers, which represent beer to most people, don't seem to do it for girls. They're bland, watery, and they tend to give you a gut the size of a beach ball. While guys tend to take that last part in stride, I think most men put up with the blandness because drinking beer is a symbol of masculinity. Most girls do not want to be masculine.
So we're at a disadvantage here; not only does the taste of most beer put off women, but not many women want to pound cold ones with the guys. Not to worry, I have a solution that I guarantee will not only score you major points but may possibly start her on a path to enjoying other beer.
For the women reading this, just remember I'm only trying to help. Really.
Sour beer: it exists and it is amazing. These beers are literally living works of art, hand crafted in small batches and aged in wooden barrels for several years even before being bottled and sold. Remind you of anything? Say, another fermented beverage made with grapes instead of barley?
Sour beers are pretty much exactly what they sound like. They are sour and tart from the production of lactic and acetic acid, made by microorganisms other than yeast that ferment the beer. The end result is a light beer with sour, fruity flavors, low hoppiness, a little sweetness and a range of crazy flavors that are best left to your imagination.

Most people don't know what they are missing if the only beer they've had are the common American macros, watery, tasteless, awful. Good call on the Lambics! I've found that women can enjoy good beer too if given some good advice. (Continued…)
