For the second straight weekend, the UConn baseball team has come away winning two out of three conference games - this time against Seton Hall.
Friday afternoon's game went to UConn (14-14, 4-5 Big East) 7-2, with help from its two hottest hitters, Peter Fatse and George Springer. Pre-season All Big East selection John Folino turned in a second straight solid performance, going six strong innings and only allowing two runs.
Seton Hall (14-12, 5-4) would take Saturday's game 6-3 behind the dominance of starting pitcher Keith Cantwell. The senior pitched a complete game, only allowing one earned run, and striking out seven Husky batters. The decisive blow came in the form of Matt Smedberg's three-run triple in the fifth, giving the Pirates a 5-0 lead that UConn could not catch.
In Sunday's rubber match, it was Springer again who powered the Huskies to a 10-3 win to take the series. Springer blasted a two-run homer, his team-leading sixth of the season, in the top of the first to give UConn a 3-0 lead. Springer would add a run-scoring double to finish the weekend with four RBIs. Greg Nappo earned the win, going seven innings - only allowing four hits - and striking out seven.
The Huskies' road trip continues Monday as they travel north to face UMass at 3 p.m.
