This weekend, Renee Montgomery led the women's basketball team to a win in the Final Four over Stanford. Montgomery scored a game-high 26 points to earn her first-ever appearance in a National Championship game.
Is it a strange feeling knowing that after tomorrow night your season will be over and your career at UConn will be complete?
It's just a family here, so it's hard to fathom going to something different. I think back to high school and I thought things couldn't get any better in high school. And then i got here and they were even better. I know that things are going to keep getting better for me and I pray that stays that way.
How do you want to be remembered by your fans, teammates, coaches and everyone else?
Just as someone who loved to have fun on and off the court. I think that that's what makes basketball so fun. We have people that I care about and who can play hard and you just feel can handle business n the court.
What will you remember most about this year?
Just how close all of us are. Really, I don't know if people can understand it until they're around us. We can be with each other for five hours in they gym and we can get back to our apartments and everybody's like, 'What are you guys doing?' We end up watching movies together, watching games together - just the experiences that I have and how close we are. I think that's the thing - not even going undefeated so far, but just all the things off the court that have made who we are on the court so special.
For you personally, what would it mean to come back with a national championship?
It would just be so great. Yesterday I was so happy I didn't know what to do with myself. It just makes it so much more special that we're going to have all my family here and my teammates from high school here. This is probably one of the best experiences of my life. Everyone's here to see it and I can cheer with them. And it's just a great way to go out.
