Letter to the Editor: Administration should not use student listserv to respond to press
Issue date: 4/10/09 Section: Commentary
Perhaps this is a minor issue, but I'd like to express my discontent at Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Barry Feldman, Provost Peter Nichols and Associate Vice President for Architectural and Engineering Services Jim Bradley using the Student-Announce listserv to respond to an article in the Hartford Courant.
Not only was this e-mail ineffective (I proceeded to read the Courant article after receiving the email, therefore making myself aware of these "inaccuracies"), it was innappropriate.
The Student-Announce listserv should be used only to announce events and opportunities for students, not to conduct a PR campaign, and especially not to respond to news articles. If the administration wished to respond to a story in the Hartford Courant, they should write a letter to the editor of that newspaper, or perhaps consider giving meaningful comments to reporters when they ask.
