Dining Services will limit the service at many dining units this weekend due to the drop in student participation over Easter weekend, according to an e-mail sent to the student body by Gail Merrill, Marketing Coordinator of Dining Services.

All units will be open for breakfast and lunch today. Buckley, South, McMahon and Northwest will be open for dinner, according to the e-mail.

Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12, South Dining Hall will be open for breakfast. Buckley, South, McMahon and Northwest will be open for brunch and dinner.

Today, Bookworms, Wilbur's, Chem Café and Up & Atom will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lu's Café will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Co-Op Café will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tomorrow, the Co-Op Café will operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Bookworms will be open from 12 p.m. to midnight.

The Union Street Market will operate at its normal hours all weekend.

"We're owned by the university; however, we are totally self-supportive, which means any income that we get supports us," said C. Dennis Pierce, director of Dining Services. "We don't get any money from the university or the state of Connecticut. We have to rely on sales of meal plans and retail.

"That being said, there's a significant history of a participation rate [for this weekend] so significantly low because people leave campus," Pierce said. "From our perspective, you can't justify paying people to cook food when no one comes to eat."

Pierce said that Dining Services has been limiting service on Easter weekend for at least 23 years.
