Things just keep getting better and better for Renee Montgomery.

Two days after UConn's senior point guard won her first National Championship with the Huskies, Montgomery found out where the next phase of her basketball career will begin when she was selected by the Minnesota Lynx with the No. 4 pick in Thursday's WNBA Draft, held in Secaucus, N.J.

Montgomery, UConn's 20th overall player to be drafted into the WNBA, joins a Lynx team that includes former UConn forward Charde Houston and went 16-18 in 2008, finishing tied for last in the Western Conference. The team also features Seimone Augustus, the No. 1 overall pick in 2006, and Candice Wiggins, the No. 3 overall pick in 2008.

The Atlanta Dream used the No. 1 pick to select Louisville forward Angel McCoughtry. Following McCoughtry were Maryland teammates Marissa Coleman - taken No. 2 by the Washington Mystics - and Kristi Tolliver - taken No. 3 by the Chicago Sky.

Montgomery became just the 10th UConn player to be selected in the first round of the WNBA Draft. The Huskies have had two No. 1-overall picks in the WNBA - Diana Taurasi (2004) and Sue Bird (2002).

In her time at UConn, Montgomery established herself as a team leader and one of the top point guards in the country. Montgomery was a four-time State Farm All-American First Team selection for the Huskies, finishing with career averages of 13.3 points and 4.2 assists per game.

Montgomery played 150 games in her career, the most all time among UConn players, and started the final 140 of those games. Her 632 career assists rank her third in UConn history behind Taurasi and Jennifer Rizzotti. Montgomery's 1,990 points rank sixth on UConn's scoring list.

Montgomery will return to Connecticut when the Lynx play at the Connecitcut Sun on Aug. 22.
