Issue date: 4/14/09 Section: Sports
This afternoon the softball team will face off against Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. This will be the second time the two teams have played this season, with the first meeting back in early March when the two teams squared off in the South Florida Tournament.
In their first meeting, the Huskies dominated the game, defeating the Pride by a score of 6-1. In that game, the Huskies took a 6-0 lead by the second inning, and from that point on the game belonged to Tricia Sullivan, who held the Pride hitless after the third inning and only gave up one unearned run en route to the victory.
Hofstra now stands with a record of 19-14 overall, and have won three of their last four games. Until the Huskies (23-12) were roughed up in their last game against Notre Dame, they had won their previous nine contests. They will surely be looking to seize that momentum back against a team they have already beaten this season.
In other softball news, Micah Truax was named to the Big East Honor Roll this past week. The senior outfielder batted .615 over the past week, with a .927 slugging percentage, a home run, and a double. In her first eight straight at-bats, Truax reached base, and came around to score three times. This is the second time this season Truax has been named to the Big East Honor Roll.
