The idea of war is an abstract concept, but not a new one to the American people. There are troops fighting across the Middle East, young men and women training at various bases worldwide and families at home waiting for the day their loved ones return from an unstable environment where they are risking their lives for the country we have the privilege of living in.

Although many Americans can be told these things over and over again, it can be hard to truly be concerned about soldiers whom they do not personally know. But it is important to remember those in the Marines, Navy, Army, National Guard and Air Force when life gets hectic. We all tend to get too caught up in our own worries at times, but keeping in mind fellow Americans will surely keep us on the right track.

There are many ways to help let soldiers know how much their bravery is appreciated, and you do not need to have any relation or connection to make a difference in some else's life. Being creative with what you send can be fun and will greatly benefit the men and women in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, where many do not have cell phones or computers to use to check emails from home.

It is also a nice gesture to write letters. These soldiers do not need material distractions; a simple letter of gratitude will make the day much brighter for a soldier who cannot easily communicate with family from home.

There are various organizations that have worked together to raise money for soldiers to buy laptops and gather items to send care packages. There are even elementary school children who are eager to write a sincere note thanking those who protect them and our country.

There are many different ways to thank our troops! It is exciting to get a package no matter who you are or where you might be in the world. Remember to think of things you might want or need if you did get to bring everything you own to a military base overseas.  ?
