Last Wednesday, Rutgers dominated UConn at home, en route to a 7-0 trouncing of the Huskies. UConn hopes for a better showing today versus the Scarlet Knights, in the first round of the Big East tournament.

UConn (9-11) has gone 2-3 in its last five matches heading into postseason play. However, the Huskies are carrying some momentum after a 6-1 win on Senior Day against Villanova. After losing the doubles point, it took strong singles performances from Katie Moritz and Emily Herb to turn the tide to a blowout win. UConn's victory prolonged the career of Senior Captain BreAnn Cheung and also the Huskies' season.

The team's goal all season was to qualify for the Big East tournament. The win improved UConn's conference record to 4-8 on the season, which was good enough for the 12th and final seed.

Rutgers is on the other side of the spectrum. The Scarlet Knights have won 10 of their last 11 and sport a 14-4 overall record with an 8-2 mark in the Big East. Their 7-0 win last week over UConn was their last regular season match before the tournament.

This marks the fourth straight year that head coach Glenn Marshall has taken the women's program to the Big East tournament. In 20w07, UConn had its best finish in program history, taking seventh in the tournament.

Last season the Huskies were the 11th seed, and were eliminated after going 0-2 with losses to Syracuse and West Virginia. Rutgers was the eighth seed and finished seventh overall. If the Huskies should upset the Scarlet Knights, they would face fourth seeded Marquette, who beat UConn 7-0 in March.

The Huskies have never finished higher than fourth place and being a 12 seed this year, and not many people are expecting a long run for UConn. However, the whole season was a fight to the finish and the Huskies were resilient in many matches. Resiliency is the reason why UConn toughed it out during the stretch and made the trip to Tampa.
