This Saturday, Idealists United will be holding a daylong, free Human Rights Festival, beginning at 12 p.m., to support peace and human rights. Headlining the festival will be the Dead Prez, a socially conscious hip hop group known for singles "Hip-Hop" and "Be Healthy."
Other acts will include local bands the Lawless Coast, the Social Boys, Young Freaks, Sleepwell, Life on Hold, Kittens Ablaze, Circadian Rhythm, Spongioblast, UConn Steel Drums, Written Up, Ali Telmesani, Funk Your Mother, activist speakers and more.
The festival will also feature the "No Sweat" fashion show, which will showcase the latest styles of eco-friendly and sweatshop-free clothing.
Don't forget to bring a lighter or cell phone, as the event organizers will be moving the crowd into a giant peace sign formation for a high-altitude aerial display during the evening.
This event is presented by the Human Rights Tour, founded by UConn alumni, and is funded by USG.
The festival will be filmed for a promotional DVD, which the Human Rights Tour will be sending out to every university and high school in the country.
Featured in the film will be a 20-foot by 4-foot Universal Declaration of Human Rights document, which will be open for anyone to sign.
Solar panels will power the event, courtesy of UConnPIRG.
