The softball team took to the road for two huge weekend series against rival Big East teams. The Huskies were swept in both series by opponents Louisville and Georgetown.

The Huskies (25-16, 7-10 Big East) first matched up against Louisville (39-5, 14-2 Big East) on Friday afternoon. The Cardinals, who are ranked No. 17 in the nation and currently sit atop the Big East standings, sent out ace pitcher Kristen Wadwell for both games. Wadwell is 33-5 on the season with a 1.16 ERA.

In the first game Louisville threatened in nearly every inning, but the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh, when two Cardinal hits and a throwing miscue at third pushed the game-winning run across the plate as Louisville won 1-0.

The second game was more of the same for the Huskies at the plate, who were still unable to put up any runs against Wadwell. The Cardinals took advantage of a six-run third inning to seal the deal, sending 11 batters to the plate to take a 6-0 lead, which would carry to the end as the Cardinals won by the same score. Freshman Jessie Stavola suffered her first loss of the season.

Following the series at Louisville, the Huskies then moved on to Washington D.C. to face Georgetown (13-25, 6-10 Big East). In game one, the Huskies offensive struggles continued, but thanks to Racahel Crossin, the game remained a scoreless tie going into extra innings. In the eighth inning, however, an RBI double by Kristi Pruess gave the Hoya's the 1-0 victory.

In game two the Huskies were finally able to get on the board. After falling behind 2-0, Jen Ward scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth to give the Huskies their first run of the weekend. The Huskies would tie the score at 2-2 thanks to an RBI sacrifice bunt by Jess Arremony in the top of the sixth. The game remained tied at 2-2 until the 11th inning, when a Georgetown RBI single brought home the game-winning run, giving the Hoyas the 3-2 victory.

In Crossin's three starts over the weekend, two of which came on the same day, she pitched 23.1 innings, allowing only three earned runs while striking out 29 batters.
