In an historic event today, the women's track team will travel to Philadelphia's famous Franklin Field and compete in the 115th running of the Penn Relays.

The meet is hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Quakers and will take place all day today and throughout the weekend. The world's largest annual track meet features more than 1,300 different high school, college and professional teams from the U.S. and beyond.

The Penn Relays has packed crowds year after year and is much bigger than a college track meet. Last year's Saturday session had a total of 49,891 people, and the total attendance during the weekend was 113,392. There are also a 5K and 20K race, and a decathlon and heptathlon held Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, for UConn this is not an event that will last all weekend. This is merely a glorified tune-up for the Brown Springtime Invitational on Sunday.

UConn is expected to send a limited number of its team to Philadelphia. UConn will likely send at least one javelin thrower and a 4 x 800 meter relay team. The Huskies are also expected to send some sprinters as well.

Last week, in the final home meet UConn had a strong showing. It won 11 events, including taking the top two spots in nine events. Amanda Martin, Tynisha McMillian, Carin Knight, Meghan Cunningham, Phylicia Geroge and Andrianos all placed first in their events. The relay teams also won their races.

The Huskies have two more meets until the Big East championships.
