"This is where we are after spring ball and headed into summer workouts and preseason camp," Edsall said. "Some positions need to be solidified and there can be changes made to this before we have a gameday depth chart for our opener against Ohio University on Sept. 5."
After being hesitant to name a starting quarterback the entire spring - even heading into UConn's Spring Game - Edsall finally settled on Notre Dame transfer Zach Frazer as the Huskies' No. 1 signal caller. Despite naming Frazer the starter, Edsall made it clear that competition still existed.
"Zach Frazer is our number-one quarterback coming out of spring practice and he has earned that spot," he said. "However, as we continue over the summer and into fall camp, there is still competition at that position, like there is at each spot on the team."
For Andre Dixon, his dreams of once again starting for the Huskies will be momentarily put on hold as Jordan Todman landed the No. 1 running back spot. Todman, who racked up 296 yards and three touchdowns as one of just two true freshmen on the offense, looked noticeably faster and more agile than Dixon throughout the spring.
Dixon is currently slotted in at the number-two running-back spot but an "or" on the depth chart makes his position interchangeable with Kelmetrus "Meme" Wylie's. Wylie had a productive spring and Edsall has said several times that he hopes to find a way to work him into the offense.
Nobody on the offensive line is a sure starter as of yet, with all five linemen sharing an "or" on the depth chart with their backups. Currently the ones for the line are Dan Ryan, Mathieu Oliver, Moe Petrus, Zach Hurd and Mike Hicks.
Senior Brad Kanuch, who is expected to return by June 1 after suffering a broken collarbone in spring practice, has solidified one of three starting wide-out positions with the other two still up in the air. The four receivers in contention for the last two starting jobs are Isiah Moore, Marcus Easley, Kashif Moore and Michael Smith. Kashif Moore led the Huskies with 273 receiving yards last season and caught one of just five touchdown passes on the year.
Filling in on the defensive line for Cody Brown and Julius Williams, both of whom signed contracts with NFL teams this past weekend, will be junior Marcus Campbell and senior Lindsey Witten, who combined for 29 tackles seven sacks last season.
