After reading about the UConn College Republicans' unfortunate decision to host the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, I couldn't help but think maybe the obstructionist and conspiratorial tone that the Republican Party has adopted since the election campaign might explain why the GOP is currently trailing President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party in the polls.

Instead of offering a constructive criticism of the new administration and viable proposals to better this nation, the GOP has seemingly found strength in crackpot theories of an Obama socialist revolution. This has sparked fallacious assumptions that the tea parties that have broken out like a rash of mildew across this nation were an actual representation of the average American's concerns, especially in this age when most people consider themselves lucky to be holding on to a job.

It is the increasing radicalization of the Republican Party that has soured many voters against it, like myself, who voted against the McCain-Palin campaign because of the overwhelmingly negative and dirty tactics utilized by the conservative movement to cast Obama as a foreign Muslim subversive bent on the destruction of the United States.

It appears in the wake of Sen. Arlen Specter's move to the Democratic Party, I might not be the only one tired of the increasing monopolization of the GOP by conservative charlatans like Patterson and Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher, whose worldview is defined solely by what they have heard on conservative radio and what they have read in Bible, instead of trying to find workable solutions to the epic problems the United States must face over in the coming years.
