Keep a positive attitude after leaving college

Ah, spring. The birds are chirping, the sun is shining…or not, looking at the weather we've been having recently. April is over - shouldn't the showers be over, too? I have yet to see May flowers. Nonetheless, even though the weeks have been rainy, I know that the sun will come out eventually. Maybe not tomorrow or even the next day - but eventually. Like Mark Twain once said, "If you don't like the weather in New England, just wait a few minutes." This quote applies to more than just the weather. In everything in life, be patient if things are not going your way. Keep this in mind for your future years.

Though some days may seem gloomy, the past dictates that sunny days are to come. So while some things from Storrs are better left in the past, other memories should be preserved. Don't dwell on the bad memories - instead, focus on the good. Fifty years from now, if I only have a few memories, I will want them to be the best ones possible.

And seeing that I don't know how good my memory will be (as it's currently not faring too well), I think I will make it easier for my brain. I'll dwell on only the good things that have happened to me so far and push the bad thoughts away.

If there's one lesson that everyone should learn, it is to maintain a positive attitude. Having a negative attitude doesn't help anyone; on the contrary, all it can do is hurt your prospects. As the old adage goes, misery loves company. But let's not forget that a smile can be equally contagious and, of course, the better option.

Positive attitudes bolster good moods, and this works both ways to provide the best opportunities possible. Consider this: who would you rather hire to fill a job opening? An optimist who is willing to try new things and refuse to let defeat get them down? Or a pessimist who can only dwell on the cons of the past? Having a positive attitude is not naive. A good way to maintain a positive attitude is to think of happy memories. But make sure you don't ignore the bad ones. We can learn from the bad and take from the good.
