The summer after graduation is that last summer where you can revel in being a kid. You are not a real grown up yet, but the next three warm months are the last ones before you go into the work force and become a working adult.

While most students would love to do as many things as they can, and travel to as many places as they want before they begin their "9-to-5" lifestyle, the economy today is putting that at a standstill.

But, there are still many things that can be done, and plenty of places to go that are cheap and tons of fun.

Weekend trips

While it would be nice to go to Florida or California to spend one last vacation with your friends, shorter local trips can be just as much fun (without denting your bank account).

There are plenty of places for you to visit on a budget in the New England area. Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard are great places to visit for a weekend. Being able to drive instead of fly will save you an immense amount of time and money. According to The Cape Point Hotel's Web site, rooms for a weekend there can go for as low as 44 dollars a night during May.

Places like Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard are great because they are fairly local but are also full of things to do. There is everything from beaches to shopping to great restaurants. It is great way to spend an enjoyable weekend with your friends.

At-home cocktail parties

Being 21 or older makes it easy to meet up with your friends at the bar on the weekends. But going to the bar two or three times a week and spending money on several overpriced drinks can add up.

Putting in a little effort and rotating hosting jobs with your friends can be just as fun, and much less expensive. Warmer weather makes it easy to have a bunch of friends over, to sit outside and enjoy a few cocktails. Make it BYOB. That way everyone can drink what he or she likes and it is cheaper for everyone.

"Hosting parties at my house is one of my favorite things to do in the summer," said Katherine Griffin, a 6th-semester accounting major. "I love having everyone sitting on my back deck enjoying the nice weather and great company."

Enjoy the outdoors

Enjoying Mother Nature during the summer months is cheap and easy to do. Going on hikes, taking walks and going to the local beach are all things to do with your friends for barely any money at all.

Another good activity to do with your friends is camping. As long as you know someone who has a tent, renting a campsite is very cheap.

The Mineral Springs Campground in Stafford Springs allows people to camp overnight for $5 per person.

Without a television or computer around, you can really bond with your friends. It could be the perfect thing to do if you are all parting ways once September comes.
