In honor of their concert on Saturday night, this week's column is dedicated to none other than Third Eye Blind.

A band that basked in 1990s glory after rising out of the San Fransisco music scene, Third Eye Blind hit the jackpot with their self-titled debut album in 1997. Best known for their No. 1 hits "Jumper," "Semi-charmed Life" and "Crystal Baller," the band has made UConn one of several stops on their college tour. And since the SUBOG concert announcement last month, students from South suites to the Towers quad have been buzzing with excitement.

The band's current lineup is front man and lead singer Stephen Jenkins, drummer Brad Hargreaves and guitarist Tony Fredanelli. Recently, the band released their first album in six years to anxious fans, "Ursa Major" on Aug. 17, 2009, receiving harsh criticism across the board.

Rolling Stone gave the album three out of five stars, saying "He [Stephen Jenkins] still has a way with uplifting pop-rock choruses like the one on 'Can You Take Me,' the album's hard-charging opener. Dotted with spry little riffs and Jenkins' pseudo raps, 'Ursa Major' is a slick but heartfelt disc that packs pleasure even if you're not Nineties-nostalgic."

I would like to pose this question to the student body: Why did you buy tickets to the concert? Whether you want time to reminisce about days past or are interested in hearing some of their new stuff, this should be a show that comprises both eras of 3EB.

When asked about the '90s revival by Rolling Stone, Jenkins commented "I would like to politely opt out of being any part of a revival. I don't associate myself or any of my sensibilities with the '90s."

"That's not where my head is at all. I'm interested in 2010. I know in '97 there was a real dent in popular culture, but most of our records have come out in the 2000s. I've never had any interest whatsoever in looking back."

Looking to get a little more information on Jenkins, you'll be surprised to hear about his impressive dating track record. Famous lookers such as Winona Ryder, Charlize Theron and Vanessa Carlton are in his little black book. However, when asked about his personal life by Rolling Stone, he said "I love women. I'm inspired. But I'm not a big fan of the public relationship."
