Cody Endres' run as UConn's starting quarterback was short-lived, ending Saturday after he injured his left shoulder during the first quarter of the Huskies' 28-24 loss to Rutgers at Rentschler Field. Endres, who saw his first action of the season on Sept. 12 against North Carolina, is expected to be out for the rest of the season, returning the quarterback job to the team's original starter, Zach Frazer.

Endres was injured on the second play of the Huskies' third offensive series. As he attempted a pass to Andre Dixon, Endres was hit hard from the side by defensive end Alex Silvestro and defensive back Blair Bines and went down hard on his left shoulder.

Coach Randy Edsall said after the game that Endres was scheduled to have surgery on the shoulder, which is on his non-throwing arm, Sunday morning.

"What they [UConn trainers] had told me, basically he did the same thing as Bradford, Sam Bradford did from Oklahoma."

Bradford sprained his acromioclavicular joint in his right throwing arm in his team's first offensive series in a 16-13 loss to Texas on Oct. 17. He had season-ending surgery on the joint on Oct. 28. The surgery was considered a success, according to releases from the school.

The acromioclavicular joint, more commonly referred to as an AC joint, is located at the top of the shoulder at the junction of the shoulder blade and collarbone. It allows the arm to be raised above the head.

Frazer came in for the next play following the injury and threw an incomplete pass that was dropped by tight end Ryan Griffin. Frazer struggled early on, with his first two full offensive drives ending in interceptions. Frazer finished with three interceptions on the day and though he had a career-high 333 yards, he completed just 21 of 46 pass attempts for a 46 percent completion rate.

"It's been awhile since I've thrown a pass," Frazer said. "It definitely took awhile to get in rhythm."

Frazer got his rhythm in the fourth quarter, however, throwing a 32-yard pass over the middle to Marcus Easley for the team's first offensive touchdown. He made a number of key passes later in the game, including a 31-yard pass reeled in on the right sideline on 3rd and 10 and a 32-yard pass to Kashif Moore on 4th and 5 to help set up Jordan Todman's go-ahead touchdown with under a minute left.
