Storrs Side: Men's basketball makes debut at Gampel Pavilion

The ones to attend
No. 8 men's soccer vs. Providence, Saturday, 7 p.m. Morrone Stadium
The Huskies play their first game in the Big East tournament when they host Providence in second-round action Saturday night. Last season UConn was bounced in their first tournament game - at home - by DePaul. If the regular season is any indication, the Huskies won't let it happen this time around. UConn already downed Providence earlier this year 4-0.
No. 14 men's basketball vs. UMass-Lowell, Sunday, 1 p.m. Gampel Pavillion.
Sure it's only an exhibition game but if the Huskies opener against AIC on Wednesday was any indication this team will be fun to watch all year. Plus, the early exhibition games give fans an early view of several important freshmen who will need to step up. Alex Oriakhi and Jamaal Trice both looked solid in their first game and although Jerome Dyson has yet to be cleared to play, Stanley Robinson is more than capable of providing some fireworks to make up for his absence.
The one to watch
Football vs. No. 4 Cincinnati, Saturday, 8 p.m., ABC
Watching this game should not be a problem as it is the Huskies' first prime time game of the season. After four heartbreaking losses there would be no better way to put that behind them than for UConn to crush any hope the undefeated Bearcats have of going to national championship. Cincinnati will be without their starting quarterback Tony Pike.
The one to follow up on
No. 7 field hockey vs. Louisville, Saturday, 1:30 p.m., Providence, R.I.
Coach Nancy Stevens once again led her team to an outstanding regular season, finishing with only two losses on the year to 17 wins. The Huskies begin the Big East tournament against Louisville - a team that gave them one of their closest wins of the year - on Saturday looking to avenge last year's heartbreaking loss to Syracuse.
