The ones to follow up on
Field hockey vs. Drexel, Saturday 2 p.m.
After winning the Big East tournament championship last weekend, the field hockey team begins its quest for a national championship against Drexel. The Huskies already faced the Dragons earlier this year, winning 5-2 in Storrs. If that result repeats itself UConn will have the unenviable task of taking on top seeded and undefeated Maryland in the semifinals on Sunday.
Women's soccer vs. Boston University, Friday 7 p.m.
After missing out on the NCAA Tournament for the first time in its history last year, the women's soccer team is back with an opening round match-up against America East champion Boston University. After a hot streak mid season, the Huskies have cooled off considerably and were bounced in their first Big East tournament game. A run in the national tournament could salvage the year.
The ones to attend
Men's basketball vs. William & Mary, Friday 7 p.m.
The wait is over, and men's basketball kicks off its regular season Friday night against William and Mary. The Huskies looked good in the preseason and the freshmen additions Jamaal Trice, Darius Smith and Alex Oriakhi - have had quick impact and they'll be needed in the upcoming season.
Women's basketball vs. Northeastern, Saturday 2 p.m.
The defending champion women's basketball game go for 40 in a row against Northeastern Saturday at Gampel Pavilion. Maya Moore looks poised for another big season and with Caroline Doty back from an ACL tear last year don't be surprised if this team runs the table again. The lone freshman, guard Kelly Faris, has made an immediate impact in the exhibition games and will get more time with an injury to Lorin Dixon.
